The HR challenge for Valid

IT is at the heart of Valid, whose point of difference is helping its customers stay ahead of the game. This places a lot of demands on the employees. Attracting, retaining and leveraging talent is one of the biggest challenges facing HR today, and it’s no different for Valid.

Employee satisfaction surveys showed that the previous staff appraisal system had a low approval rating. Employees stated that goals set at the beginning of the year rarely corresponded to what they were doing day-to-day and that there was too little focus on personal development.

Employees in control with Forward

Valid wanted to have a greater focus on personal growth. And, to help them achieve this aim, they developed a new performance management method, called Forward. In this way, Valid is living out its mission to continually improve and to make a difference through innovation. Forward is all about development and progress, and truly has the employee at its heart. Employees draw up their own personal plan, grow through feedback from colleagues and customers, and are in regular dialogue with their line manager.

Moreover, it encourages managers to take more of a coaching leadership role. The old system (a Word document) did not even come close to facilitating this way of working. Personal plan
Employees put together a personal plan in which they define what they want to achieve and where they want to develop.

Request feedback
Employees are encouraged to ask for and give regular feedback to colleagues. Valid facilitates feedback sessions for employees.

Evaluate
Employees are in control and write their own wrap-up at the end of the year, which forms the basis for the evaluation meeting with the manager.
